Encaustic Process
Encaustic is a process that employs the encaustic medium, which is actually a blend of beeswax and damar resin, a natural tree resin. To create an encaustic piece, this medium is applied over, or fused onto an image. Tinted wax medium and surface treatments can be added, creating layers of rich depth. This process over photographs or artwork creates beautiful finishing effects and surface qualites like no other process. We have used this process on images from our collection for our clients, and they have been amazed at the transformational qualities that it gives to an image. If your looking for a prize piece in your hotel lobby or center piece in your home encaustic may be it.
This Oak Tree Photograph was printed and mounted on a Birch Panel. Encaustic medium was applied onto the piece and heat used to fuse the various layers. This process gives the image a difused dream-like quality.
